Among the earliest caretakers of America’s national parks were soldiers from all-Black regiments. Starting in the 1890s, the Buffalo Soldiers played a critical role in protecting and building the infrastructure of the country’s most cherished public lands, our National Parks. Using song and BTE’s hallmark energetic physical storytelling, PARK PROTECTORS: The Story of the Buffalo Soldiers and the National Park Service will take students on a musical journey through Yosemite and into the past to learn the compelling and under appreciated history of the brave men who fought wildfires and poachers to create the now-familiar role of Park Ranger.
